The yachting industry has made significant growth in recent years towards more innovative ways of manufacturing with technology and demand paving the way for a more sustainable future. It is imperative for the entire industry to work together to preserve the ocean and marine environments and implement sustainable solutions.
Here at SETAG we are committed to generating positive change for people and for the environment by building responsible and sustainable considerations into every stage of our refits – and of course, the simple act of ‘recycling’ an existing yacht is the ultimate in upcycling.
Reducing the environmental impact of Setag’s operations is key for Laura Prynn, our Supply Chain Director who is driven to understand how she can positively contribute to the global efforts.
Here she talks us through how Setag is ahead of the curve when it comes to a sustainable supply chain.
“I have quickly become very conscious of how my daily activities impact the wider environment. The way in which parts are manufactured, the materials we use, the labour we employ and the way we transport goods are now equally as important to the price we pay.
My initial task was to map our Supply Chain to gain a comprehensive understanding of the most significant environmental and social challenges they face. Minimising the number of suppliers allows us to gain a greater depth of understanding and proximity for risk. Communication is critical for future engagement and provides encouragement for improvement.
Working together with the supply chain enables shared ideas, initiatives and concepts for the future. Historical, long standing relationships with key suppliers have allowed us to ‘hit the ground running’.
In our preparation for Boat Show events, Setag makes it the number 1 priority to source environmentally friendly products to furnish our stand. This included bamboo (a sustainable alternative to wood), that remains carbon negative throughout its journey to the customer, flooring that is 100% recyclable and paint that is VOC free.
All fabrics and furnishings will be repurposed or reused at future shows.
Once we have secured sustainable materials, our next challenge is to package and transport them in an efficient and environmentally friendly way. Alternatives to high polluting vehicles are electric and hybrid, which are proving to be the key to tomorrow’s logistics. Optimising routes & loads is particularly important when we are working outside our local area and within Europe. Identifying a courier company who make sustainability a cornerstone of their business is key to our long-term relationship. Reducing carbon footprints and developing green initiatives are fundamental to Setag’s core values.
The drive for sustainability is becoming more urgent as we gain clearer understanding of how we are impacting the environment for the next generation. It is our responsibility to act now to provide a greener future for our children. Setag and its supply chain will ensure they play their part in this global challenge.” – Laura Prynn, Supply Chain Director.
Reducing toxins without downgrading on comfort is key for Sarah Luck, our Design Director, who is an expert in sustainable interior design solutions. Here she talks us through how Setag is ahead of the curve when it comes to lessening the environmental impact through a conscientious approach to design within our refits…

Setag are probably the only company who can carry out all the tasks as a ‘one stop shop’. Other yards were reluctant to price work and needed to subcontract many tasks meaning higher costs and longer lead times.
