We are committed to generating positive change for people and for the environment by building responsible and sustainable considerations into every stage of our refits – and of course, the simple act of ‘recycling’ an existing yacht is the ultimate in upcycling.

Reducing toxins without downgrading on comfort is key for Sarah Luck, our Design Director, who is an expert in sustainable interior design solutions. Here she talks us through how Setag is ahead of the curve when it comes to lessening the environmental impact through a conscientious approach to design & refits…

Powered by creativity and collaboration, we are reducing our environmental impact by looking at natural alternatives. Particular areas of focus are the upholstery fabrics. ‘I’m a big believer in zero or minimal toxins in an environment.’ says Sarah. ‘For instance, when you have a foam that is a little bit older and is deteriorating slightly, it’s essentially breaking down within the cushion, so whenever you’re sitting down on it you are actually getting the dust foam particles coming out of the cushion, which you are then breathing in. And they’re really toxic. They’re not good for you, so we need to eliminate that problem.

I’ve been working quite closely with several companies, trying to recreate similar or higher comfort levels to conventional foam methods. Enkev specialise in sustainable, natural interior fillings that are recyclable. They are a UK-based company who have a whole catalogue of different types of fillings that can be used for many different applications. It’s been a little bit trial and error, testing to see what works best for base cushion, a sofa replacement and the back cushion – and mattresses are a different area as well. And of course, everybody is different and likes a different comfort level.

Setag is really the ultimate in upcycling, and you can still have something that’s factory new and sustainable. A lot of companies don’t consider this in their fabric selections. It’s something I’ll try to do all the time. It’s always worth it.’

We would love you to join us, this is our chance to do something good.
